Book Club in a Bag

Are you in a Book Club? Then we have the perfect service for you!

This program allows you to borrow 8-10 copies of one title from a variety of bestselling authors for FREE. All you need is a valid Oshawa Public Libraries card! Titles may be requested online.

The Oshawa Public Libraries has more than 150 fiction and non-fiction book club sets available, so groups are sure to find a book that will generate some great conversations!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reserve a book club set?

  • The group leader must have a valid Oshawa Public Libraries card.
  • Each item in a set is checked out on the group leader’s card for 6 weeks. The group leader takes responsibility for the set’s return.
  • Bookings may be made up to a year in advance by calling (905) 579-6111, ext. 5236 or visiting your nearest service desk.
  • You are limited to having two sets checked out at one time.

    How do I pick up my set when it’s ready?

  • You will receive a phone call or email when your book club set is due to be picked up.
  • You may pick up your reserved book club sets from the library service desk.
  • All items in the set (including the pamphlet) must be checked out at the Circulation Desk.

    Once we’re finished, how do we return the set to the library?

  • Complete sets must be returned to the circulation desk inside one of the library branches. Please return the set in the bag you received it in.
  • Please do not put them in the book drop.
  • There are no renewals on sets.
  • Leaders are responsible for ensuring that their group members return their books promptly.

    What happens if my set is overdue?

  • Each item in the set incurs a fine of $0.10 for each day it is overdue.
  • If a set is returned late, overdue fines will be charged to the group leader’s card for each item in the set.
  • If a set is returned incomplete, the missing items will incur overdue fines on the group leader’s card until they are returned.

    I’ve lost some books or some are damaged. Are there any charges for this?

  • If an item from a set is lost or damaged, the leader will be billed for the replacement cost of the item plus a $6.00 processing fee per item.
  • If an entire set is lost or damaged, the leader will be billed for the entire set, including the bag, plus a $6.00 processing fee per item.
  • The replacement costs of the sets depend on the cost of each particular item.
