James Patterson presents a bold new heroine—a cross between Katniss Everdeen and Annie Oakley: Serendipity Jones, the fastest sharpshooter in tomorrow’s West.
Seventeen-year-old Serendipity “Pity” Jones inherited two things from her mother: a pair of six shooters and perfect aim. She’s been offered a life of fame and fortune in Cessation, a glittering city where lawlessness is a way of life. But the price she pays for her freedom may be too great….
In this extraordinary debut from Lyndsay Ely, the West is once again wild after a Second Civil War fractures the U.S. into a broken, dangerous land. Pity’s struggle against the dark and twisted underbelly of a corrupt city will haunt you long after the final bullet is shot.

A Wrinkle In Time
Madeleine L’Engle’s classic A Wrinkle in Time was published in 1962 and has become a favourite book for many young readers. At the time of its publication, A Wrinkle in Time was different in that it was science fiction (the author was reading about quantum physics) and had a female protagonist. Originally developed for the big screen in 2003, a new movie version of the book is out, starring Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey, and Mindy Kaling. The film is directed by Ava DuVernay, who directed the Academy Award-winning film Selma in 2014. We have several copies of the book in the collection, and not surprisingly, all copies are currently checked out.
It was a dark and stormy night; Meg Murry, her small brother Charles Wallace, and her mother had come down to the kitchen for a midnight snack when they were upset by the arrival of a most disturbing stranger.
“Wild nights are my glory,” the unearthly stranger told them. “I just got caught in a downdraft and blown off course. Let me be on my way. Speaking of way, by the way, there is such a thing as a tesseract”.
Meg’s father had been experimenting with this fifth dimension of time travel when he mysteriously disappeared. Now the time has come for Meg, her friend Calvin, and Charles Wallace to rescue him. But can they outwit the forces of evil they will encounter on their heart-stopping journey through space?
